The Department of Ecology, Evolution and Marine Biology seeks applicants for a tenure track position Assistant Professor in Physiological Plant Ecology, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2019. The Department is particularly interested in individuals whose research evaluates eco-physiological interactions between wild plant species and the environment. Successful applicants will have strong training from the organ (or biochemical) to the whole plant level with a record of linking the mechanistic behavior of plants to evolutionary, community or ecosystem-level processes, including (but not limited to) interspecific interactions, vegetation change, species divergence, natural selection, and population dynamics and the role of plants in ecosystem functioning. Applicants should have strong training and methodological expertise that has prepared them to explore questions and challenges related to plant response and adaptation to environmental stress, mineral nutrition and constraints on carbon allocation and sequestration, or root/soil/microbe interactions and their influence on larger scale phenomena.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in biology, ecology, botany or a related field by the time of appointment in the position. Additional desirable criteria include a record of successful grant acquisition, demonstrated experience in undergraduate education, a commitment to building a graduate program, and a proven record of scholarly achievement, and preferably two years of postdoctoral experience.
The successful applicant will join a growing group of terrestrial ecologists within the Department of Ecology, Evolution and Marine Biology (EEMB). Teaching expectations include an upper division laboratory course with lab in Physiological Plant Ecology and participation in other aspects of the EEMB curriculum.
