The Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies at the University of California Santa Barbara, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of Migration Studies at the level of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2019. We seek a scholar whose research resonates with established and emerging intellectual strengths of Department faculty and whose teaching efforts would contribute to the Social Processes area of our undergraduate and graduate programs.
The Department welcomes applications from scholars committed to social justice and interested in the study of Chicana/o/x and Latina/o/x migration experiences including, but not limited to: immigration and the U.S.-Mexico border, public policy, indigeneity and migration, femicide, unaccompanied minors, gendered and queer migrations, and Central American immigration. Evidence of engagement with issues such as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), comprehensive immigration reform, mass deportation, race and racialization, and immigrant rights activism is encouraged. We seek applications demonstrating strong interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary training in the social sciences, conceived in broad and innovative terms. The Department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching, and service.
This position requires a PhD in a area related to Migration Studies by the time of appointment.
