Description

The Janusonis Laboratory within the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences, in conjunction with the Manjunath Vision Research Laboratory (Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering) and the Detering Laboratory (Department of Statistics & Applied Probability) at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for an open, full-time Postdoctoral Scholar position.

This position will be part of a two-year interdisciplinary project that investigates the dynamic processes underlying the ascending reticular activating system, a key component of neural processing. A major focus of the project is the self-organization of regional serotonergic fiber densities, based on the stochastic behavior of single fibers. Theoretical analyses are built on high-resolution three-dimensional data obtained in animal models and ex vivo preparations.

The successful candidate will be hired by the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences and will interact with all Principal Investigators (Janusonis, Manjunath, and Detering).

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. (or equivalent) except the dissertation at the time of application in Neurobiology, Bioengineering, Computational Neuroscience, or an interdisciplinary field that includes some of the areas. Applicants must have PhD degree conferred by the expected start date of February 28, 2019.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
At least six months to one year of research experience in microanatomical analysis of neural tissue and/or computer-based image analysis, supported by a strong publication record(as evidenced by 1-3 articles published in peer-reviewed journals), is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants with experience in one or more of the following areas: confocal or light-sheet microscopy, tissue clearing techniques, neuronal cell cultures, or computer analysis of 3D-images (with programming experience) are preferred.
