Assistant Project Scientist positions in the Neuroscience Research Institute

Salary: Based on UCSB Project Scientist series salary table

Position Description:
Two Assistant Project Scientist positions are available in the laboratory of Dr. Craig Montell to conduct research on the molecular and neural mechanisms underlying behavior in the mosquito Aedes aegypti. The appointees will generate mutant and transgenic mosquitoes using CRISPR/Cas9 and apply behavioral assays to reveal the roles of ion channels and receptors important for sensory physiology and host seeking behavior. The appointees will be expected to make significant conceptual contributions to the project.

Minimum qualifications: A doctorate degree in Biochemistry and/or Molecular Biology is required, along with a minimum of one year of experience in working on Aedes aegypti.

Preferred qualifications: The ideal candidates will have experience in successfully using the CRISPR/Cas9 system in Aedes aegypti.

Initial appointments are for one year, full time with benefits. Continuation beyond one year will be based on performance and availability of funding.
