Position description

The California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI) is an integrated research facility. Its mission is to encourage university collaboration with industry and to enable the rapid commercialization of discoveries in nanoscience and nanotechnology. CNSI members represent a multi-disciplinary team of some of the world's preeminent scientists from the life and physical sciences, engineering, and medicine. The work conducted at the CNSI represents world-class expertise in four targeted areas of nanosystems-related research including Energy, Environment, Health-Medicine, and Information Technology.

The California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI ) is actively seeking Specialists at the Assistant, Associate, and Full level to commit effort on CNSI projects. This is a large, pooled recruitment covering many disciplines and research foci. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed through October 31, 2020.

The number of positions varies depending on the needs of the department. Positions may range from part-time to full-time.

Assistant Specialist enable research as part of a team and may provide some independent input into the planning and execution of the research.

Associate Specialist provide considerable independent input into the planning and execution of the research, have a record of academic accomplishments, including contributions to published research in the field, and a demonstrated record of University and/or public service.

Full Specialist provide considerable independent input into the planning and execution of the research, have a significant record of academic accomplishments, including contributions to published research in the field, and a demonstrated
record of University and/or public service.

Appointees to the Specialist series engage in specialized research, professional activity, and University and/or public service. Specialists use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions to the research enterprise of the University and to achieve recognition in the professional and scientific community. Specialists may participate in University and/or public service depending upon funding source and duties of the position.

Basic qualifications

Appointees must possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or have five years of experience demonstrating expertise in the relevant specialization at the time of application.

Additional Qualifications

Associate Specialist: Appointees should possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or have five to ten years of experience demonstrating expertise in the relevant specialization.

Specialist: Appointees should possess a terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or have ten or more years of experience demonstrating expertise in the relevant specialization.

Preferred qualifications

2+ years of research experience in applicable or relevant field.
