Position description

The California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI) is an integrated research facility. Its mission is to encourage university collaboration with industry and to enable the rapid commercialization of discoveries in nanoscience and nanotechnology. CNSI members represent a multi-disciplinary team of some of the world's preeminent scientists from the life and physical sciences, engineering, and medicine. The work conducted at the CNSI represents world-class expertise in four targeted areas of nanosystems-related research including Energy, Environment, Health-Medicine, and Information Technology.

The California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI ) is actively seeking Assistant Professional Researchers to engage in independent research on CNSI projects. Professional Researchers are those who demonstrate continuous and effective engagement in independent and creative activity of high quality and significance, professional competence and activity, and engage in independent research equivalent to that required for the Professor series.

This is a large, pooled recruitment covering many disciplines and research foci. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed through October 31, 2020.

The number of positions varies depending on the needs of the department. Positions may range from part-time to full-time.

Basic qualifications

The minimum requirement to be considered an applicant is the completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree except the dissertation (ABD status) in engineering, life or physical sciences, medicine, or a related field, at the time of application.

Additional qualifications

  • Doctoral degree must be conferred by time of appointment.

Preferred qualifications

  • 3 to 5 years previous experience in a lab and/or research group
  • Previous publication and/or scholarly activity
  • Experience as Principal Investigator or Co-PI on awards (or submitted awards)
  • Previous research experience in applicable or relevant field.
  • Demonstrated independent research effort.
