Position description

The College of Creative Studies (CCS) at the University of California, Santa Barbara seeks one or more contemporary artists for temporary part-time lecturer position(s) to teach painting, drawing, sculpture, interdisciplinary practices, new genres and professional practices in the CCS Art Major during the 2020-21 academic year. Unique, theme-based approaches to course content is encouraged. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions varies from quarter to quarter, depending on the needs of the College and the availability of funding. Temporary appointment positions are variable in terms of percentage of time (5% to 100%) and duration (may range from one quarter to one year). This is a non-tenure track, non-ladder, non-academic senate position. Ideally, one lecturer will be appointed to the position to teach in both Winter and Spring Quarters at 33%. The service period begin date for Winter Quarter is January 4, 2021. The service period begin date for Spring Quarter is March 29, 2021. This appointment is for academic year 2020-21 only, with the possibility of reappointment in future years being dependent upon program needs and job performance. Salary is based on UC’s salary scales and depends upon qualifications.

Duties include teaching courses that focus on contemporary art practices which promote the creative and intellectual growth of students.

Applicants must possess an MFA or an equivalent graduate level degree from a foreign country (e.g. an MFA or MA) in Art by the time of application. A minimum of six months of teaching experience at the College or University level, and a record of exhibitions and projects. Strong interpersonal skills and experience in contribution to diversity are desired.

CCS is a small undergraduate college designed for self-directed students in the sciences and humanities within a world-class research university. It provides a rigorous, accelerated program facilitating original work, and offers a BA in art.
