The Department of Black Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary lecturers for the 2021 academic year. The number of positions and desired thematic areas vary, depending on the needs of the department each quarter. Salary is based on UC’s salary scales and depends on qualifications. Review of applications will begin March 12, 2021 and will remain open until October 31, 2021
The minimum qualifications for successful applicants include holding a Ph.D. in the Social Sciences/Humanities in fields related to Black Studies, with a minimum of one year teaching experience at the university level and evidence of a previous record in teaching Black Studies courses. Preferred candidates will have teaching and research foci in the following areas: African American History, African History, African & African American music, African & African American Literature, History of Enslavement, Urban Studies, Black Radical Tradition, Environmental Justice, Housing and Public Policy, Prison Industrial Complex, Black Film Studies, Queer Studies, Black Feminist & Women’s Studies, Racism and Science, U.S. Civil Rights Movement, Caribbean Studies, and intersections of race, class, gender and sexuality in African/Caribbean/African-American or Diasporic Studies.
We will only review complete applications, which must include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching, relevant teaching evaluations, sample syllabi, and three letters of reference.
