Junior Specialist in the Neuroscience Research Institute (Goard Lab)

Position title: Junior SpecialistPosition description
The Goard lab is seeking a full-time (100%) Junior Specialist (Research Technician) interested in using cutting edge optical and physiological techniques to probe sensory processing and cognitive function. Although there will be some lab management duties (e.g., ordering), this position will primarily be an opportunity to design and build physiology equipment and carry out a supervised research project to gain hands-on laboratory experience.
Specific duties include: Design and construction of physiology apparatus and microscopes, 2-photon and widefield calcium imaging, optogenetic perturbations, survival surgery, quantitative analysis of physiology data.

Qualifications
Applicants must have completed or be currently enrolled in a BA or BS program in neuroscience, engineering or a related field at the time of application.

Engineering experience (particularly mechanical and electrical engineering) is preferred but not necessary. Programming experience (particularly Matlab or Python) is preferred but not necessary. An interest in learning more about the neuroscience.
