Salary range: Based on UCSB Project Scientist series salary table
Percent time: 100%
Anticipated start: August 2022
Position duration: Initial appointment is for one year, full time with benefits with the intention to extend the appointment beyond this period based on performance and availability of funding.

Position description

A position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Kenneth Kosik to conduct research on mechanisms of Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegeneration using post-mortem human brains with single cell RNA and ATAC sequencing. This will involve isolating nuclei from frozen postmortem human brains. Furthermore, the appointee will conduct single-cell multiome experiments, sequencing library preparation and bioinformatic analysis of the multiome data. The appointee will be expected to make significant, original, and creative contributions to the research project, collaborate with other team members, and publish research.

The Department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

A doctoral degree in biology or related field is required, along with a minimum of 3 years of post doctoral experience in neurobiology research.

Preferred qualifications

A solid research and publication record at the pre- and postdoctoral level. Experience with bioinformatics, single-cell transcriptomics, ATAC-seq, and spatial transcriptomics.
