Position description

The Neuroscience Research Institute and the Departments of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology and of Ecology, Evolution and Marine Biology at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for Postdoc positions.

The Yi Lab at the University of California, Santa Barbara is hiring one or two postdoctoral scientists to join projects on large-scale comparative neuro-epigenomic analyses of primates. This position is funded by an NIH R01 grant and an NSF grant. The goals of these projects are to understand how epigenomes of primate brains evolve and how we can connect genome and epigenome evolution to phenotypic evolution of brains. We have assembled an interdisciplinary collaborative research team to investigate these fundamental questions and the postdoctoral scholars will have opportunities to interact with neuroscientists, primate biologists and anthropologists. The main duties of the postdoctoral scholar are to oversee genomic and epigenomic data collection and take a lead in the analyses of those data. Even though the main activities of the postdoctoral researcher will consist of computational and bioinformatics analyses, she/he will also have opportunities to design and participate in the experiments according to her/his interests.

Furthermore, as a member of our friendly, collaborative, and international research community, scholars who are interested in pursuing epigenomic studies of non-model organisms will have opportunity to develop their research projects with implications on global change biology and ecological epigenomics. Our current interests include, but not limited to, insects, snakes, marine invertebrates and birds.

The Yi lab is an interdisciplinary group of students and postdocs and project scientists from diverse backgrounds. We are new to UCSB although we have an established research portfolio. Postdoctoral scientists are expected to publish their research in research journals and present at scientific meetings.

The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service as appropriate to the position.
