Position description

Program Scope and Complexity:
This position works within Strategic Programs and Business Development of the College of Engineering which serves as a gateway to external partnerships with the goal of accelerating innovation and helping to shape future engineering and scientific leaders, through support of faculty research and student internships and capstone projects. The AD brings industry leaders together with world‐class faculty to augment their internal research capabilities, leverage federal opportunities, provide access to world‐class facilities, or assist with investigating novel technologies. Fostering collaborations with external industry, the AD develops custom proposals and programs to meet those needs through workshops, board meetings, and topic‐specific events.

As a part of Strategic Programs, the Corporate Affiliates Program (CAP) is a fee‐based program at UC Santa Barbara that is dedicated to continuing to educate dedicated corporations about engineering and sciences at UCSB, to solicit their involvement in capstone activity, and to enhance UCSB’s rankings.

The Associate Director of Corporate Business Development is responsible for prospecting and engaging new corporate partnerships with the purpose of creating a pipeline of corporate funding for UCSB’s College of Engineering. The Associate Director is the first contact with companies to encourage their interest in funding research and supporting student capstone projects.

Level of Professional Accomplishment:

Development of New Corporate Partnerships: The Associate Director identifies, develops, and engages new industry partnerships with a target number set each year based on UCSB’s existing relationships, unique research strengths, and other criteria as identified.
Stewardship of Corporate Partnership and CAP members: The Associate Director manages and grows the ongoing relationships in the College of Engineering and the Sciences with each of the corporate partners and management of Corporate Affiliates Program (CAP).
Corporate Engagement for Strategic Recruiting: The Associate Director supervises the Corporate Relations and Student Recruitment Manager who in conjunction directs the strategy for targeting new corporate engagements for the purpose of creating new career/intern opportunities for students.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
  • Masters in a STEM field
Preferred qualifications
  • Ph.D. in a STEM field
  • 5 years or more of industry experience
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills
  • 3-5 years working with research academics
  • Background in materials, electronics, software
  • Experience organizing and executing philanthropic efforts
