Position description

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California Santa Barbara invites applications for a 75% Academic Coordinator 1 position for Undergraduate Instructional support with the anticipated start date of September 18, 2022. The department is looking for a qualified individual with a particular emphasis in the area of working in an academic instructional laboratory.

Responsibilities of the position will be to implement laboratory course material directives and to accurately prepare experiments for all teaching labs. The Academic Coordinator serves in a key role for the successful operations of the instructional teaching laboratories in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry.

The university is especially interested in applicants who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research,
teaching and service, as appropriate to the position.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

B.S. degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or in a related physical or life sciences area.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
  • At least one year of work experience in an academic research or teaching laboratory environment at time of start date
Preferred qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience implementing course material directives to include accurate experiment preparation while following established standard operating protocols (SOPs) for each instructional experiment.
  • Demonstrated or potential to supervise and manage a diverse team of student members
