Position description

UC Santa Barbara’s Department of Technology Management invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank in the area of technology and organizations with a research focus that relates technological innovation, entrepreneurship or organizational change, with a start date of July 1, 2023 or later. The successful candidates will complement a growing, award-winning faculty engaged in cutting-edge research and teaching at the intersection of social and technological systems.

Applicants must have a PhD degree in a relevant area by the time of appointment. We welcome applications from scholars who have expertise in any of the following areas: organizational behavior, organizational theory, work and organization studies, science and technology, knowledge and learning, and strategic management, with a focus on innovation and entrepreneurship. Interdisciplinary and multi-methodological approaches to studying phenomena at any level of analysis (e.g., individuals, groups, or organizations) are welcome. A record of securing external funding for research is desirable.

The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching, and service as appropriate to the position.

Successful applicants will contribute to the exciting intellectual environment within the Department of Technology Management and contribute meaningfully to its strategic initiatives and programmatic activities. The selected candidate is expected to play a key role in the growth of the department and to participate in departmental service appropriate for an assistant professor.

The Department of Technology Management resides in UC Santa Barbara’s highly ranked College of Engineering, where it offers a successful professional Master’s degree, a Ph.D. program, and undergraduate and graduate certificates. Core faculty in Technology Management include Matthew Beane, Gary Hansen, Paul Leonardi, Kyle Lewis, Nelson Phillips, Renee Rottner Jessica Santana, and Mary Tripsas whose research and teaching reflect the unit’s intentional interdisciplinary character.

Applicants must have all but dissertation in a related field at the time of application.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

Applicants must have a PhD degree in a relevant area by the time of appointment

Preferred qualifications

We welcome applications from scholars who have expertise in technological innovation and entrepreneurship, or a related area. A record of securing external funding for research is desirable.
