Position description

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for a full time Assistant/Associate Project Scientist with an anticipated start date of mid-late October 2022.

The Assistant/Associate Project Scientist will provide independent contributions to the planning and execution of cryogenic CLEM research. Duties include heading all cell culture preparation for cryogenic TEM projects. This position requires that you work with collaborators and lab members, guide and train them on all aspects of cell culture preparation for cryogenic TEM samples.

The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching, and service as appropriate to the position.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

To have a PhD in Biology, biochemistry, or a related field by the time of the application.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

To have 2 or more years of work experience in mammalian cell culture, molecular biology and RT-CLEM. Applicants with minimum qualifications will be considered at the Assistant level for the position, while applicants with 5 or more years of experience will be considered at the Associate level for the position. Applicants considered for the Associate level position may be required to submit references for letters.

Preferred qualifications

To have 10 or more years of experience working as a Cell/Molecular Biologist engaging in cryogenic or room temperature correlative light and electron microscopy (CLEM) research in mammalian cell culture, molecular biology.
