Position description

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) is accepting applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the broad area of signal processing and communications. The Department has particular (but non-exclusive) interest in applicants with a depth of expertise in audio, speech, image, video or graph signal processing, as well as signal processing for applications in bio-medical, virtual reality, sensor networks, data science and related fields, along with broader interests and the ability to collaborate with faculty across disciplines.

The department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching, and service.

The University of California, Santa Barbara is a leading research institution nestled on California’s beautiful Central Coast, with the ECE building located adjacent to the beach. The greater Santa Barbara area is a great place to raise a family and is within driving distance to Los Angeles.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Applicants must have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Electrical and Computer Engineering or a closely related field except the dissertation at the time of application.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

Ph.D. required by time of appointment.

Preferred qualifications

Candidates should have an established research reputation or outstanding research potential, the ability to attract external research funding, and a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Candidates should demonstrate the ability to develop a highly successful independent research program, and demonstrate the potential to participate effectively in the teaching of the ECE curriculum at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
