Position description

The Teacher Education Program at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for the position of Supervisor of Teacher Education. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. Open until filled.

The posting will remain open until March 31, 2023 to accommodate department needs. The pool will close on March 31; if you would like to continue to be considered after that time, and the pooled position is advertised again, you will need to submit a new application.

The Supervisor’s responsibilities include:

  • Supervises Teacher Education Program students in practicum sites in elementary or secondary public schools.
  • Coordinates between UCSB coursework and practicum activities for TEP students and Cooperating Teachers.
  • Provides training and support for Cooperating Teachers at the school site.
  • Works in consultation with school personnel to identify classroom placements, promote growth in teaching practice and to resolve problems.
  • Meets regularly with TEP students and participates in TEP faculty meetings, curriculum development activities, and program and student evaluation activities.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Teacher certification in the State of California or equivalent at the time of application.

Minimum of three years experience as a lead public or private school classroom teacher at the time of application.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

At least one quarter/semester experience in providing professional development services to teachers/educational personnel, OR at least one quarter/semester mentoring new teachers or pre-service teachers by the time of appointment.

Preferred qualifications

Master’s degree in Education or related field, or equivalent experience.

Prior experience with classroom supervision of pre-service teachers.

Familiarity with the California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP) and Teacher Performance Expectations (TPE).

Knowledge of current policies and effective practices in K-12 teaching.

Familiarity with edTPA or CalTPA.

Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
