Position description
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California, Santa Barbara, invites applications for a pool of qualified lecturers to teach biochemistry laboratory courses in the 2023-2024 academic year with potential to include summer 2023. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The availability of positions varies from quarter to quarter, depending on the needs of the department. Percent appointments my vary, up to 100%.
Main duties will include instruction of the lecture and laboratory portion of the biochemistry laboratory course and supervision of graduate student teaching assistants. The position is up to full time.
The Department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service.

Qualifications
At a minimum, applicants must have completed or be enrolled in a MA or MS degree program in chemistry or related field at the time of application.
Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
- PhD degree
- The ability to organize and instruct labs in biochemistry
- Teaching at the college level
- Experience with modern biochemical laboratory methods
- Experience with large lecture formats (>250 students)
- Knowledge of open source online content and the use of technology in the classroom, such as iclicker
- High academic achievement, excellent interpersonal skills, exemplary teaching and mentoring is highly desired
