Position description

A lab manager position is available in the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences at University of California Santa Barbara with Dr. Gregory Ashby.

Research in the lab combines cognitive neuroscience, computational modeling, and empirical data collection to study human learning and memory with particular emphasis on category learning and sequence learning. The goals are to understand the perceptual, cognitive, and neural processes that mediate these phenomena, and to build and test neurobiologically detailed computational models.

The duties of this position are diverse and will include scheduling and running subjects, maintaining the lab web site, submitting and updating protocols for the running of human subjects, tracking budgets on the various grants that support the lab, purchasing, scheduling various lab meetings, interviewing and selecting undergraduate research assistants, and computer programming (e.g., of experiments run in the lab). There will also be opportunities to collaborate on lab research projects. The successful candidate will be detail oriented, have a B.A. or B.S. in Psychology, Biopsychology, or Neuroscience, and have prior research experience. Also critical are computer programming skills in Matlab, basic knowledge of neuroanatomy, and at least one year of calculus.

The Department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service. The University of California is an Equal Opportunity Affirmative Action employer.
