Position description

The Department of Education at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for a ladder-rank faculty position at the assistant professor level in the area of mathematics education beginning July 1, 2014. We are seeking a candidate with a doctorate in mathematics education or related area and an emphasis in the teaching and learning of secondary mathematics. Competitive candidates must demonstrate potential excellence in both research and teaching at the university level. Desirable research areas in mathematics education include teacher education and/or professional development, English language learners, and traditional and performance-based assessment. Research that considers culturally, ethnically, and/or linguistically diverse populations is especially desirable. Highly desirable qualifications also include experience working with pre-service and in-service teachers, using inquiry based teaching methods in mathematics, and K-12 teaching experience. Position responsibilities include conducting research on mathematics education, teaching doctoral and credential-level courses on teaching and learning in mathematics, mentoring graduate students, and collaborating with researchers and teachers. Additional responsibilities may include teaching undergraduate courses and participating in professional development for mathematics educators. The department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity & excellence of the academic community through research, teaching, & service.

Minimum qualifications: Earned doctorate in mathematics education, or related fields, a clearly articulated research agenda in mathematics education, and a record of scholarly publication commensurate with professional experience.
