Position description

The Materials Research Laboratory (MRL) at University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) serves as the innovation engine for discoveries in new materials and houses a number of world-class research programs. This includes the Dow Materials Institute and the NIH-funded Program of Excellence in Nanotechnology (PEN). To meet the research and project management needs of these programs, we are looking for a motivated polymer chemist (Associate Specialist) to join our team. This appointment is for 2 years with the possibility of renewal at an annual salary range of $52,344-$63,012. The position requires expertise in the coordination of research activities between universities and between university and industrial partners, day-to-day running of a facility for Nanomaterials Production under SOP conditions, supply of materials for in-vivo testing and the ability to perform monomer synthesis and anionic ring-opening, living radical and other controlled polymerizations.

Desirable requirements:

Masters degree in chemistry, chemical engineering or related fields
With practical experience in and basic understanding of polymer characterization and synthesis
Excellent communication and social skills
Proficient knowledge of computers and software
Good hands-on lab skills
Strong interest in lab training
Independent performance of tasks with minimum supervision
