Position description

The Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology at the University of California, Santa Barbara seeks applications for two Lecturer positions beginning July 1, 2015. The instructors will play a critical role in the development and implementation of an HHMI-funded project with the goal of enhancing student engagement in biology. Primary responsibility will consist of teaching innovative introductory biology courses for both freshmen and sophomores, training undergraduates in a peer-to-peer mentoring program, and offering graduate-level seminars in scientific teaching methods. Candidates with training and experience in discipline-based education research are sought. Previous post-doctoral experience is preferred, but recent PhD graduates will also be considered. Prior teaching experience at the lecturer level is also desirable though not essential. The appointment is for one-year, renewable for up to three additional years subject to satisfactory performance. Effective date July 1, 2015. Salary is dependent upon qualifications.

Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in molecular or cellular biosciences or a closely related field. The successful applicant will be broadly trained in the molecular/cellular biosciences and have training in effective undergraduate teaching and pedagogy.
