Position description

The Projects Data Coordinator manages ecologically and environmentally relevant data from funded projects at the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS). The coordinator contacts data providers and consults the literature to gather metadata to make the data understandable and useful for synthesis activities. The coordinator also performs a wide variety of analysis and modeling activities to assess and remedy data quality issues, as well as characterize and visualize data for synthesis. The Projects Data Coordinator works closely with the Director of Informatics Research and Development to identify issues that need attention to streamline the data management process, with NCEAS' Scientific Programmer's to identify fruitful approaches to data analysis and visualization, and with scientists from targeted projects to gather data and metadata.

Evaluation Criteria
Minimum Qualifications: The Projects Data Coordinator requires a Bachelor's degree in environmental, ecological, or related science fields, understanding of data management issues and procedures, and demonstrable analysis and modeling skills in modern statistics and modeling frameworks. Qualified candidates must have some experience working in one or more scripted statistical frameworks such as R or Matlab, as well as excellent writing and speaking skills in English allowing communication of complex technical topics to a science audience.

Desirable Qualifications: A Master's degree or other higher degree in environmental, ecological, or related science fields is desirable, as is extensive knowledge and skill in data management, R, statistics, and modeling. Understanding of programming in any language is desirable.

Salary range
$42,144 - $48,048 per year depending on experience
