Position description

As a California Institute for Science and Innovation (CISI), the California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI) at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) builds upon an investment from the State of California to foster the generation of ideas, discoveries and the talent that will continue to fuel innovation in research on the nanometer scale. The Biological Nanostructures Laboratory (BNL) is one of several multi-user Core facilities within CNSI that serves the nanoscience research community.

The BNL is seeking to hire a Specialist who will be responsible for the following aspects of the lab:
• Assist facility users with cell culture/transfection and recombinant protein expression experiments
• Plan and execute proper biowaste decontamination and glassware sterilization protocol
• Train users of the facility on the proper and effective use e of facility shared instruments , including the tissue culture facility
• Maintain and track supply inventory
• Implement regular test plan to verify instruments’ performance

Requirements:
• Master’s degree or 5-10 years of experience demonstrating expertise in biology, chemistry, or chemical engineering. A PhD Is preferred.
• Strong hands-on laboratory skills
• Tissue culture and/or molecular biology skills are highly desirable
• Prior experience training researchers in a laboratory setting. Excellent communication skills

Appointments are variable with the possibility of reappointment in accordance with applicable personnel policies, availability of funding and departmental need.
