Position description

The Research Development division in the Office of Research at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) seeks an Academic Coordinator to serve as Associate Director of Research Development for the Humanities, Fine Arts, and Education. This is a 50%-time position that has responsibility for enhancing research at UCSB by conducting a program of humanities, fine arts, and education research development.
 
This position requires an academic with a broad, interdisciplinary base of understanding of research and scholarship, the ability to communicate collegially and knowledgeably with faculty in an array of disciplines using diverse methodological approaches, and experience in proposal writing. It also requires the establishment and maintenance of informed scholarly contact with funding agency program officers in both public and private funding sectors. This position reports to the Director of Research Development and performs a diverse set of functions including independent program management. The Associate Director is the primary point of contact for research development support for faculty in the humanities and fine arts, and works in collaboration with the Director of Research Development for Social Sciences and Education to support faculty in education. The Associate Director maintains close ties with the Dean of Humanities and Fine Arts, the Dean of the Gervirtz Graduate School of Education, the Director of the Interdisciplinary Humanities Center, and the chairs of all humanities, fine arts, and education departments.

This is a 50% Academic Coordinator 2 position, with the initial appointment for one year, subject to renewal based on performance. The salary range is $32,295 - $42,632 for 50%-time, depending on qualifications and experience.
 
Responsibilities of the Associate Director include, but are not limited to:
• assisting faculty in generating effective extramural proposals;
• providing detailed grant proposal development assistance through all stages of proposal conceptual development and refinement;
• identifying key funding opportunities that align with targeted areas of humanities, fine arts, and education research at UCSB;
• coordinating funding source searches for faculty as needed;
• designing, conducting and participating in grant development workshops and other interventions with humanities, fine arts, and education faculty;
• collaborating with personnel in the Office of Research, the Division of Humanities and Fine Arts in the College of Letters and Science, the Gervirtz Graduate School of Education, and the Interdisciplinary Humanities Center to develop and execute plans to meet campus research and funding needs in the humanities, fine arts, and education.
 
This position also maintains contact with UC system-wide funding programs, federal funding agencies, and private foundation funders and, based on these, informs faculty about new funding opportunities. This position must develop and maintain a detailed knowledge of UCSB humanities, fine arts, and education faculty research interests and strengths, and beyond that, the position is responsible for creating and overseeing programs of research development for faculty in the humanities, fine arts, and education.

This position requires excellent verbal skills and editing ability, a demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative environment, strong organizational skills, a high level of fluency in word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet software, good interpersonal skills, and a high degree of professionalism.

Minimum Requirements
Graduate degree in humanities, fine arts, or education or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications
Ph.D. in humanities or fine arts. 
Experience with proposal writing.
