Position description

The College of Creative Studies at UC Santa Barbara seeks applications for a temporary part-time lecturer position in the CCS Physics Major during the 2016-17 academic year. Temporary positions are variable in terms of duration and percentage of time. This appointment is anticipated to be 50% for one year, with the possibility of reappointment depending upon performance and program needs. Duties include lecturing and leading problem sessions at the honors level for freshman and sophomore Physics majors with very inquisitive minds and superior preparation, student recruitment and academic advising. Other duties include promoting the creative and intellectual growth of students and participation in program development. The College of Creative Studies is an undergraduate college whose students are among the most capable on campus. Over 70% of the Physics majors in the College go on to Ph.D. programs, many at the top Universities in the country. A Masters degree in Physics and teaching experience at the college level are required; a Ph.D. is preferred, along with strong interpersonal skills. This is a non-tenure track, non-ladder position.
