Position description

Applications are invited for a part-time position as a lecturer with possibility of reappointment for Education 214A (Introductory Statistics; Fall 2016), 214B (Inferential Statistics; Winter 2017), and 214C (Linear Models for Data Analysis; Spring 2017). Salary is based on UC's salary scales and depends upon qualifications.

Together, the 214 courses are meant to provide an introduction to applied statistics and research design to graduate students in the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education. By the end of the sequence, students should be able to (a) critically read and understand educational research that makes use of common statistical methods, (b) select appropriate analytic approaches for novel research situations, (c) use specialized software to conduct a range of data analyses and interpret the results in the context of their own research, (d) manage and analyze data sets, and (e) write the appropriate method and result sections for the range of statistical approaches covered in the courses that are in line with academic journals (e.g., APA style of method and results sections).

Responsibilities:
The lecturer will teach one section (of up to 50 students) of each of ED 214A, 214B, and 214C in fall, winter, and spring, respectively. Each course meets 3 hours per week during the quarter. The lecturer will also be expected to design course content in collaboration with other Education faculty members, as well as to develop and share detailed lesson plans of each class taught. Further, the lecturer will supervise two Teaching Assistants, who are responsible for the lab sections for these courses.

Qualifications:
Applicants must have an advanced degree (MA or PhD) in Education or a related field, with significant emphasis on quantitative methods. Teaching experience at the graduate and/or undergraduate level is preferred. Evidence of the ability to be an effective teacher for students from diverse backgrounds is also strongly preferred.
