Description

Postdoctoral Scholar Position in Biomedical Research of Polycystic Kidney Disease

Applicants are sought for a one-year, extendable postdoctoral position based in the laboratory of Dr. Thomas Weimbs studying the molecular mechanisms underlying polycystic kidney disease (PKD) at the University of California at Santa Barbara.

PKD is a very common, life-threatening genetic disease that leads to renal failure. No FDA approved therapy is currently available. The postdoctoral researcher will join a group that uses a broad range of methods and approaches to investigate PKD at the biochemical, cell biological and in vivo levels, and to develop new therapies. The researcher will primarily be involved in a project that was recently funded by a grant from the National Institutes of Health. To goal of this project is to investigate the role of renal tubular microcrystal deposition on the progression of PKD. The proposed experiments include work with mouse and rat models of PKD as well as many molecular analyses. We will be able to directly test new therapies in these rodent models with the goal that this work will eventually lead to clinical trials. The laboratory is highly collaborative with many opportunities to contribute to other, related projects.

Requirements include a Ph.D. in cellular and molecular biology or related discipline. Desirable skills include experience with small animal experimentation, histology, microscopy, cell culture and molecular biology methods.

Review of the applications will begin on 15 March 2017, and will continue until the position is filled.

Applications should include:

• A curriculum vitae.
• A concise (up to two pages) summary of research accomplishments.
• A list with the names and contact information of at least three references.
• All relevant publications.
