Position description

The Community Engagement and Outreach Coordinator will be based at the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS) in support of two projects; DataONE and Make Data Count.

DataONE is a geographically distributed project enabling new science and knowledge creation through universal access to data about life on Earth and the environment that sustains it. It is a collaboration across multiple institutions including the University of New Mexico, the University of Tennessee Knoxville, NCEAS and others. DataONE provides a resilient, scalable infrastructure networking across data repositories to enable easy search and discovery of Earth and environmental science data. DataONE also supports research by developing an engaged community of users and repositories via the DataONE Users Group and the Member Node Forum; encouraging working groups (small groups of community experts) to support cyberinfrastructure and community engagement activities; educating the workforce by providing online best practices, curricula, and other resources; and collaborating with other cyberinfrastructure and community efforts nationally and internationally.
The Make Data Count project is a collaboration across DataONE, the California Digital Library and DataCite and aims to address the significant social as well as technical barriers to widespread incorporation of data-level metrics in the research data management ecosystem through consultation, recommendation, new technical capability, and community outreach. Project work builds upon long-standing partner initiatives supporting research data management and data level metrics, and enlists the cooperation of the research, library, funder, and publishing stakeholder communities.
In addition to the DataONE, NCEAS leads, operates, and/or collaborates on many nationally-scoped research programs, including NSF Arctic Data Center, the Long-Term Ecological Research Network's Network Communications Office (NCO) and Science for Nature and People Partnership (SNAPP).

Outreach activities will include representation of the projects through written communications, presentations, participation in working groups, webinars, exhibitor events, social media and in the development of promotional materials.
