The Department of Black Studies (www.blackstudies.ucsb.edu) at the University of California Santa Barbara invites applications for a tenure track faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2018.
Successful candidates may have a Ph.D. in Sociology, Public Policy, Public Health, Geography, History, African Diaspora Studies, Global Studies, Urban Planning, Anthropology, Architecture, American Studies, Ethnic Studies, Economics, Political Science, Education or related disciplines. We welcome applications from all subfields, but especially encourage social scientist to apply, and we acknowledge interests in strengthening our expertise in environmental justice; race, STEM, and bioscience; global/political theory; cultural studies (art/music/literature/social media). The candidate's orientation to teaching and research should correspond with the Black Studies Department’s universal investment in social justice. A Ph.D. degree in a relevant field is preferred. Ph.D. candidates who expect degree completion by the anticipated start date of July 1, 2018 may apply, but any offer is contingent upon the Ph.D. being conferred before the candidate's start date.
The Department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service. We will have preference for candidates with publication(s) in peer review journals, higher education teaching experience and evidence of success in that experience, commitment to departmental service.
