The Memory, Emotion, Thought, Awareness (META) Laboratory within the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences at University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for an open, full-time Assistant Project Scientist. This is a one-year position with the possibility of renewal, depending on performance and availability of funding. Under the direction of Dr. Jonathan Schooler, the Assistant Project Scientist will participate in a research project that is part of a multi-lab research grant funded by the John Templeton foundation. It will explore how different types of curiosity are related to creative problem solving and other aspects of creative performance, as well as spontaneous task-unrelated thought (mind wandering).

Job Description

The Assistant Project Scientist will design and conduct studies in the lab and in the field, develop new research paradigms to measure aspects of curiosity, collect and analyze data, write up manuscripts for publication, and make regular reports on the progress of the project.

A broad range of knowledge, competency, and a high level of independence is expected.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must possess a Ph.D or its equivalent in Social Psychology or a related field at the time of initial appointment.

Preferred Qualifications include the following: 1-2 years experience in research related appointments such as Post Doctoral Scholar; Experience with multilevel modelling of longitudinal data (e.g., using Stata)
