A position at the post-graduate level is available in the Earth Research Institute at the University of California, Santa Barbara, in the area of Amazon floodplain methane fluxes. Duties include, under supervision and within a team environment: Analysis of limnological data and methane fluxes from Amazon floodplains. Measurements of limnological variables and diffusive and ebullitive methane fluxes in floodplains of the Amazon basin.
The initial appointment is for one year at part-time to 100% variable time and offers a competitive salary and benefits. Continuation beyond one year will be based on performance and funding availability. The ideal start date for the position is July 1, 2018. The department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service.
Basic qualifications: Applicants must have an earned Masters or 5 years equivalent experience in Aquatic Ecology, Limnology, Biogeochemistry or related field.
Additional qualifications: Strong experience and understanding of ecological processes in Amazon floodplains. Appointees should have experience making limnological and gas flux measurements. Operation of cavity ring-down spectrometer under field conditions.Demonstrate ability to write and publish scientific papers. Appointees should have experience working independently and also collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Fluency in English and Portuguese is necessary.
Preferred qualifications: Ph.D. degree.
