The Department of Physics seeks an Academic Coordinator to serve as the Instructional Laboratories Program Manager. The Academic Coordinator will provide leadership and overall management of the instructional laboratory programs, facilities, and support team. Physics instructional lab programs serve over 5000 students per year enrolled in approximately 225 sections. The Instructional Support Team is comprised of the Academic Coordinator II (program manager), two Academic Coordinators I (upper and lower division program coordinators), and one Staff Research Associate (lecture demonstration coordinator).
The Instructional Program Manager will participate in the development, design and implementation of new course experiments in both upper and lower division lab courses. Author/co-author laboratory manuals and updates for both upper and lower division labs.
Develop and implement strategies to promote consistency in procedure and training; collaborate with instructors and academic coordinators to establish clear expectations for each experiment and protocol within each lab; identify issues and opportunities, research and analyze options. Anticipate, develop, and make recommendations in regard to program initiatives, new experiments and procedures, laboratory and instrument upgrades, long- and short-range planning, budgetary issues, and instructional space planning and management.
Oversee the instructional laboratory TA training program and develop new or modified training protocol as needed.
Monitor and project the annual budget of the Instructional Laboratory Programs. Oversee the purchasing of supplies for lab experiments and lab preparation, including instruments and equipment.
At minimum, applicants must hold a masters degree in physics or related field and have prior experience in management/development of instructional laboratory programs in physics or related field. Preferred applicants will have teaching experience at the college level.
Applicants with demonstrated experience in teaching Analog Electronics and/or Advanced Experimental Physics are especially encouraged to apply.
