Description

The Janusonis Laboratory within the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences, in conjunction with the Manjunath Vision Research Laboratory (Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering) and the Detering Laboratory (Department of Statistics & Applied Probability) at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for an open, full-time Postdoctoral Scholar position.

This position will be part of a two-year NIH-funded interdisciplinary project that investigates the computational structure of the brain serotonergic matrix, a key component of neural processing. A major focus of the project is the self-organization of regional serotonergic fiber densities, based on the stochastic behavior of single fibers. The project combines experimentation and theory: theoretical analyses are built on high-resolution data obtained in animal models and human brain specimens (representing mental disorders).

The successful candidate will be hired by the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences, but will interact with all Principal Investigators (Janusonis, Detering and Manjunath).

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must possess a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Computational Neuroscience, Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or an interdisciplinary field that bridges some of the three areas. Doctoral degree (or equivalent) must be conferred by the expected start date, October 1, 2018.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Previous research experience in Computational Neuroscience, Computer Engineering, or Applied Mathematics, supported by a strong publication record, is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
A background in quantitative neuroscience, automated image analysis, or stochastic processes is preferred.

APPLICATION AND REVIEW PROCESS
To apply, please submit the following:
