Position description

The College of Creative Studies at UC Santa Barbara seeks one or more temporary part-time lecturer(s) to teach problem sessions in the CCS Physics Major during the 2018-19 academic year. Temporary positions are variable in terms of duration and percentage of time. This is a non-tenure track, non-ladder, non-academic senate position. Ideally, one lecturer will be appointed to the position to teach in Fall, Winter and Spring Quarters of academic year 2018-2019 at 50% time. This appointment is anticipated to be for academic year 2018-2019 only, with the possibility of reappointment in future years depending upon performance and program needs.

The College of Creative Studies is an undergraduate college whose students are among the most capable on campus. Over 70% of the Physics majors in the College go on to Ph.D. programs, many at the top Universities in the country. Duties include lecturing and leading problem sessions at the honors level for freshman and sophomore Physics majors with very inquisitive minds and superior preparation, student recruitment and academic advising. Other duties include promoting the creative and intellectual growth of students and participation in program development.

A Masters degree in Physics is required. A Ph.D. is preferred, along with strong interpersonal skills. One year minimum teaching experience at the college level at the time of appointment is required.
