The UC Santa Barbara Library seeks a collaborative, dynamic, service-oriented librarian to provide experienced leadership in planning and managing library metadata quality assurance and authority control activities. This 2-year position will work to ensure metadata quality and data integrity in the Library catalog. The expected effective date of the position is November 1, 2018 or later.

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Head of Content Management Services (CMS), the Metadata Management Librarian is primarily responsible for planning and implementing metadata quality control and quality assurance in current and upcoming large-scale metadata management projects and in day to day workflows. The candidate may provide original and complex cataloging and classification of monographic Library resources in a variety of formats and languages. The candidate will be expected to work both independently as well as in collaboration with others.

The Metadata Management Librarian is responsible for initiating and directing metadata quality control and bibliographic database problem resolution to ensure metadata records meet local and national standards and provides training to staff in database maintenance and data quality control.

The Metadata Management Librarian will work closely with other library staff to establish and document relevant policies, procedures, and efficient workflows to support discovery of and access to the Library’s bibliographic and digital content in UCSB Library Search and Alexandria Digital Research Library through metadata quality assurance, enrichment, and maintenance according to local and national cataloging and metadata standards. The incumbent will maintain UCSB shared templates and normalization, merge, indication, brief level and authority headings rules and may manage Resource Management configurations in the library platform service (ExLibris Alma).

Working closely with library staff from across Departments, the Metadata Management Librarian oversees all bibliographic database management aspects of large-scale relocation and withdrawal projects, including meeting strict deadlines with low error rates.

As part of a team of metadata professionals, the Metadata Management Librarian may provide original and complex cataloging and classification of monographic Library resources in a variety of formats and languages.

Qualifications:
Basic:
•At time of application, an ALA-accredited Master’s in Library or Information Science, OR equivalent experience, two to three years working in an academic Library, in addition to an advanced degree.

•Ability to work independently and collaboratively, prioritizing work to ensure that departmental and library goals are realized;
•Excellent organizational skills, proven problem solving ability, flexibility, and ability to meet deadlines;
•Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills;
•Demonstrated commitment to achieving equity, diversity and/or inclusion in the workplace and/or community.

Preferred:
•At least two years of experience in an academic library;
•Experience with a library platform service (i.e. ExLibris Alma);
•Alma Administrative certification;
• Experience with large-scale metadata management;
•Demonstrated project management skills.

Salary and Benefits:
Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. Librarians at the University of California, Santa Barbara are professional academic appointees who accrue vacation at the rate of two days per month and sick leave at the rate of one day per month.
