Position description

The Activity Coordinator for the Engaging Humanities initiative is a full-time administrative appointment that reports to the Faculty Director of the Center for Innovative Teaching, Research, and Learning at UC Santa Barbara. The Activity Coordinator is responsible for assisting with coordination of the Engaging Humanities project, an initiative designed to create pedagogical innovations and student engagement activities in order to increase enrollment in humanities disciplines at UC Santa Barbara. The Activity Coordinator works closely with the principle investigator of the grant to support these activities; the AC is also responsible for tracking activities and expenditures from the grant budget.

The primary Activity Coordinator areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:

Project Coordination and Management:
Under general supervision from the Principal Investigator, the AC:
• Helps to implement the strategic framework Engaging Humanities Initiative and collaborates with other Engaging Humanities collaborators (the Division of Humanities and Fine Arts, Graduate Division, and others).
• Ensures that daily management of the Engaging Humanities Initiative is being implemented
• Contributes to day-to-day oversight of the Engaging Humanities initiatives
• Tracks all expenditures associated with the Engaging Humanities budget
• Assists the PI to create reports and other materials associated with the Engaging Humanities initiative

Campus and Public Relations:
The Activity Coordinator works with the PI to ensure development and maintenance of strong working relationships with, among other units, including but not limited to the Division of Humanities and Fine Arts, Graduate Division, Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities, institutional research and planning, the Office of Admissions, and other units responsible for academic preparation and outreach.

Basic Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in a relevant discipline by time of application.

Additional Qualifications:

• One year of relevant experience with technologies used to support innovative teaching and learning.
• Research-based knowledge of learning strategies and best practices related to student success.
• One year of relevant experience teaching and learning in humanities disciplines.
• One year of relevant experience in program development, project management and employee supervision.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Broad knowledge of university divisions, offices, and departments, and university personnel and procedures appropriate to a varied range of activities and coordination.
• Experience working with underrepresented minority and/or under-served populations.
• Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate effective programs and practices related to undergraduate student success.
• Ability to facilitate collaborative work across departments and manage team members;
• Ability to interact effectively with diverse populations, including senior administrators, faculty, staff, students and the public.
• Ability to prioritize and execute multiple projects at different levels.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, including excellent interpersonal communication, written reports and correspondence, and presentations for large and small audiences.
