Position description

The Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology at the University of California, Santa Barbara, invites applications for a pool of qualified research specialists to fill the needs of the labs in Biochemistry, Molecular Genetics, Cell Biology, & Developmental Biology. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions varies depending on the needs of the department. This recruitment is for the following specialist ranks:

Junior rank - Appointees enable research as part of a team.

Assistant rank - Appointees enable research as part of a team and may provide some independent input into the planning and execution of the research.

Associate rank - Appointees normally provide considerable independent input into the planning and execution of the research, have a record of academic accomplishments, including contributions to published research in the field, and a demonstrated record of University and/or public service.

Specialist (full rank) - Appointees normally provide considerable independent input into the planning and execution of the research, have a significant record of academic accomplishments, including contributions to published research in the field, and a demonstrated record of University and/or public service.

Applicants should at least have a bachelor's degree or have equivalent research experience (minimum four years of lab-based research experience), in molecular or cellular sciences at the time of application. Additional qualifications based on open positions are as follows: Junior Specialist: Baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or have equivalent research experience. Assistant Specialist: Master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or have five years of experience demonstrating expertise in the relevant specialization. Associate Specialist: Master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or have five to ten years of experience demonstrating expertise in the relevant specialization. Specialist: Appointees should possess a terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or have ten or more years of experience demonstrating expertise in the relevant specialization. Research experience in the field is preferred.
