Its mission is to encourage university collaboration with industry and to enable the rapid commercialization of discoveries in nanoscience and nanotechnology. CNSI members represent a multi-disciplinary team of some of the world's preeminent scientists from the life and physical sciences, engineering, and medicine. The work conducted at the CNSI represents world-class expertise in four targeted areas of nanosystems-related research including Energy, Environment, Health-Medicine, and Information Technology.

The California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI) invites applications for temporary research positions in the Project Scientist series (at the Assistant, Associate, and Full levels). Temporary research positions may vary from part-time to full-time and may range from short term to long term. Apply by November 22nd, 2018 for primary consideration; however, applications will be kept active for consideration within the department through October 31, 2019. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions varies depending on the needs of the department. The use of a pooled recruitment does not guarantee that an open position exists at the time you are applying. Applicants must resubmit a new application letter each year beginning November 1 to retain eligibility.

Appointees may be ongoing members of a research team, or may contribute high-level skills to a specific project for a limited time.
