Position description

The Lipshutz Group in the Institute for Terahertz Science & Technology seeks a Project Scientist to assist with the development and execution of highly sustainable chemistry. The project will mainly include C-C, C-N, C-O, and C-S bond formation reactions in water. The successful candidate must hold a PhD in Chemistry at the time of application with a strong emphasis in Organic Chemistry, and an understanding of reagents and technologies enabling organic synthesis in organic solvents to sustainable chemistry in water. We seek a candidate with at least 4 years of experience in highly sustainable chemistry through application of parts per million (ppm) metal catalysis, and water-based technologies for the synthesis of highly functional molecules which could be directly used in the preparation of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals or organic materials.

The successful applicant will be working as part of a team involving graduate students, faculty and professionals in Organic Chemistry. The ability to work as part of a team with collaborators is critical.

Technical writing skills for publishing papers is also desired.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience in accordance with University of California policy. This is a 100 % FTE position and the anticipated start date will be Winter 2020.
