The College of Creative Studies (CCS) at UC Santa Barbara seeks one or more temporary part-time lecturer(s) to teach problem sessions in the CCS Physics Major during the 2019-20 academic year. Temporary positions are variable in terms of duration and percentage of time. This is a non-tenure track, non-ladder, non-academic senate position. Ideally, one lecturer will be appointed to the position to teach in Fall, Winter and Spring Quarters at 50% time with for a July 1, 2019 appointment begin date (course instruction will start September 26, 2019). This appointment is anticipated to be for academic year 2019-2020 only, with the possibility of reappointment in future years depending upon performance and program needs.

Duties include lecturing and leading problem sessions at the honors level for freshman and sophomore Physics majors with very inquisitive minds and superior preparation. Additional duties include promoting the creative and intellectual growth of students and participation in program development. Duties may also include student recruitment and academic advising.

A Masters degree in Physics is required by time of application. One year minimum teaching experience as a Teaching Assistant or instructor at the college level by the time of appointment is required. A Ph.D. physics by time of appointment is preferred, along with strong interpersonal skills.

CCS is a small undergraduate college designed for self-directed students in the sciences and humanities within a world-class research university. It provides a rigorous, accelerated program facilitating original work for its students who are among the most capable on campus. Over 70% of the Physics majors in the College go on to Ph.D. programs, many at the top Universities in the country.
