Position description

The Department continues to seek excellent candidates for visiting assistant professor positions for 2020-21 and we anticipate 1-2 additional hires. We are especially interested in candidates in the area of Data Science, to teach courses on Statistical Data Science, Statistical Machine Learning and Data Science Concepts. Subject to budgetary approval by the College, the respective positions would carry a reduced teaching load of 3 courses/year.

The Department of Statistics and Applied Probability at UC Santa Barbara is searching for qualified candidates for visiting faculty positions in the Department of Statistics and Applied Probability for the 2020-21 academic year (with the possibility of 2 years renewal for a potential total of up to three years).

The Department comprises 17 permanent faculty members, as well as more than ten visitors and postdocs. Our vibrant research atmosphere is driven by interdisciplinary research groups in Data Science, Biostatistics, Environmental Statistics, and Financial and Actuarial Mathematics (cfmar.pstat.ucsb.edu).

A full year Visiting Assistant Professor appointment carries a teaching load of 5 one-quarter courses per year. Departmental teaching includes upper-division undergraduate courses in statistics, probability, regression, time-series, statistical computing, stochastic processes, and mathematical finance. Candidates whose research and teaching interests are in Data Science, Biostatistics, Financial Mathematics or Actuarial Science are particularly encouraged to apply.

Applicants must have completed all requirements for a PhD (or equivalent) except the dissertation, in Statistics, Applied Probability, Actuarial Sciences, Financial Mathematics or a related discipline, at the time of application and should have completed their PhD (or equivalent) by the time of appointment. Successful applicants will demonstrate or show strong promise for undergraduate teaching, collaborative research and synergies with UCSB Statistics and Applied Probability faculty.
