Position description

The University of California, Santa Barbara Department of Political Science seeks a scholar in the area of migration and immigration studies for a tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2020. We are open to scholars in all subfields of political science. We are particularly interested in scholars whose research addresses issues in the Department’s strong interdisciplinary foci in the study of identity or the environment. Migration brings together people of different ethnicities, races, and religious beliefs, creating new challenges for identity politics. Moreover, climate change and environmental disasters are intimately tied to the phenomena of migration. However, migration also has implications for U.S. domestic, transnational, and global governance. We therefore define the position broadly.

The minimum requirement to be considered an applicant is the completion of all requirements for a Ph.D. (or equivalent degree), except the dissertation, in Political Science (or related field) at the time of application. Ph.D. preferred.
UCSB is the first Hispanic-Serving Institution in the American Association of Universities (AAU). The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service as appropriate to the position. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are core values at UC Santa Barbara. Our excellence can only be fully realized by faculty, staff and students who share our commitment to these values. The department encourages all applicants to submit a Statement of Contributions to Diversity addressing past and/or potential contributions to diversity through research, teaching, and service.

Completed applications received by October 31, 2019 will receive primary consideration, but the position will remain open until filled. Applications must include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a writing sample, teaching evaluations (or other evidence of teaching effectiveness), and three letters from academic references. All application materials should be submitted via UC Recruit: https://recruit.ap.ucsb.edu/apply/JPF01607
