Position description

The Resilience Institute Bridging Biological Training and Research (RIBBiTR) is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher with joint responsibilities for (a) conducting research on factors facilitating the resilience of amphibians in the face of emerging infectious diseases and other global stressors, and (b) developing and managing databases and workflows for the collection, sharing, and archiving of ecological data collected by the institute.

RIBBiTR is a Biology Integration Institute, funded by the National Science Foundation to conduct research and training that integrates across sub-disciplines in the biological sciences to better understand how living systems achieve resilience to emerging infectious diseases and
other global change stressors. The institute is comprised of researcher/educators from many universities, each with expertise in research and training relevant to the group’s focus on the amphibian disease, chytridiomycosis.

Within RIBBiTR, the Postdoctoral Researcher will have two key responsibilities, each of which will occupy one-half of the postdoc's effort. First, the postdoc will contribute to multi-university teams focused on the analysis of ecological data collected from four field sites in California, Pennsylvania, Panama, and Brazil. The postdoc will have the opportunity to lead quantitative analysis and modeling that compares the resilience of amphibian populations across the four
field sites using multiple integrated data streams, spanning individual, population, and community scales. Second, the postdoc will be responsible for maintaining, updating, and expanding the institute's relational database that houses the data needed for this research, as well as assisting researchers in accessing and using these data. The postdoc will have the opportunity to work with institute members in developing and implementing open science workflows. The postdoc will also lead the writing and publication of scientific manuscripts, present findings at scientific conferences, support the writing of research grants, and mentor
graduate and undergraduate students.

The position is based at the University of California, Santa Barbara, travel may be required to several other universities that are part of RIBBiTR, including the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Tennessee, and others. RIBBiTR’s constituent institutions are Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employers and our team greatly values equality of opportunity, human dignity, and diversity. The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching, and service as appropriate to the position
