Position description

The Earth Research Institute at UC Santa Barbara has multiple open positions as part of a new multi-institution international project, InMOS (Integration of Models and Observations across Scales). The overall goal of the project is to better constrain oceanic budgets of heat, carbon, and oxygen, using a combination of observations, multi-scale models, and machine learning.
We are seeking a project manager to help coordinate the project across 11 institutions in the US, UK, Belgium, and South Africa. The project manager’s role will be to support and contribute to the success of InMOS in coordination with the lead PI (Tim DeVries). The duties of the project manager are varied and include:
● Supporting the lead PI at UCSB and his team on day-to-day activities for InMOS
● Ensuring coordination and collaboration among project teams
● Interfacing with the project funders and other stakeholders
● Organizing and managing communications and meetings within and between project teams
● Assisting with writing, collecting and submitting (annual, progress, financial) reports
● Managing a project-wide budget
● Creating and maintaining website and social media presence
● Coordinating outreach activities and public workshops
● Assisting in publication activities and data management
● If interested and qualified, conducting research in collaboration with the team.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

A Master’s or higher level degree and minimum of 5 years of work experience is required.

Preferred qualifications

Preferred qualifications include:

● a PhD in a relevant field (e.g. environmental science or data science) and demonstrated ability to perform scientific research. Additionally, experience as a project manager or similar type of role would be desirable.
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail;

● Effective organizational and time management skills;
● Experience with project planning, scheduling, tracking, and financial reporting;
● Computer literacy (e.g. proficiency in website design, file management, spreadsheets, coding etc.);
● Strong drive to play an important role as part of a project and ability to work effectively as part of a team;
● Ability to work and make decisions independently;
● Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
● Ability to identify issues quickly and facilitate discussion for resolution, as well as develop proper mitigation plans.
