Position description

The Materials Department in the College of Engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara, is seeking applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the broad area(s) of electronic, optoelectronic, photonic, or quantum materials. The position will be at the Assistant Professor level.

Responsibilities of faculty members generally include high quality research, teaching excellence at undergraduate and/or graduate levels, recruitment, supervision, and mentorship of graduate students, and participation in university service and professional activities.

The Materials Department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching, professional visibility and service.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Applicants are expected to have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in a science or engineering field, except the dissertation (or equivalent) at the time of application.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

Must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent in a Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field at the time of appointment.

Preferred qualifications

• Candidates should demonstrate the ability to develop a leading research program in experimental materials science, with primary focus in the development, synthesis, processing, and/or characterization of novel electronic, optoelectronic, photonic, or quantum materials that exhibit new functionalities and/or properties and that have potential for future technological applications
• It is expected that the candidate would demonstrate potential for integrative and collaborative research within the broader materials science and engineering community at UCSB, which has a longstanding reputation for collaborative research in advanced materials.
