Position description
The National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS) at UC Santa Barbara, in collaboration with the United States Geological Survey (USGS), seeks a data analyst to support management-relevant research and scientific synthesis of emerging research needs on climate-related impacts on fish, wildlife, and ecosystems. As part of this project, you will work with a team of scientists at NCEAS and USGS along with a cohort of postdoctoral fellows from nine regional USGS Climate Adaptation Science Centers. This position will be in residency at NCEAS.
Responsibilities
As a successful Data Analyst, you will apply your data science skills and knowledge to support a synthesis science initiative exploring ecological and management implications of climate-driven species range shifts. Under the direction of an NCEAS Project Scientist, you will develop data pipelines and reproducible analytical workflows to integrate heterogeneous sources of data (tabular, text, image, etc.) and contribute to the development of a national-scale synthesis research project. You will also gather, organize, and document code and data processes involved in performing statistical and geospatial analyses and designing engaging data visualizations. In addition to the national-scale synthesis project, you will have the opportunity to work with a cohort of postdoctoral fellows studying climate-driven range shifts in regional contexts across various taxonomic groups in terrestrial and marine ecosystems.
The department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service.
